Artist's Comments

One of the geological thermal spots within a geologic park in Rotorua, New Zealand.
Despite the name, there is no champagne within the actual pool, and it is instead filled by water with high sulfur concentration, resulting in the characteristic "rotten egg" smell.
The 'smoke' visible on the surface of the water is the gases, while the red patches are due to high concentrations of ferous iron oxide; the yellow is due to sulfur oxide.
The ground can also be of a purple hue, indicating the presence of manganese oxide.
